17 Saiyan Facts That You Never Heard Of

The Saiyan race is a humanoid group of organisms that have been confirmed to only exist in Universes 6 and 7. For the most part, they resemble Earthlings with the exception of their insanely high power levels and ape-like tails. In addition, during a full moon, they are able to transform into enormous apes.

Saiyans throughout Dragon Ball media have attained various levels of power as they trained. Here are all the forms a Saiyan can achieve.

• Legendary Super Saiyan
• Super Saiyan Blue
• Ultra Ego

The latter 2 forms, Ultra Ego and Ultra Instinct are not exclusive to the Saiyan race like the other forms. Rather they are forms that possess God-like Ki that Vegeta and Goku were able to attain.

The Saiyans are the most famous race of beings in the Dragon Ball universe. Here are 17 facts that you did not know about them.

1. Saiyans only have black hair

As noted throughout Dragon Ball media, full-blooded Saiyans have only been shown to have black hair. Hybrids, however, are not limited by this as seem with Vegeta's children, Trunks, and Bulla.

2. Saiyan men are terrible fathers

As stated by Gine (Goku's mother), Saiyan men are not known to care for their children. This explains why Goku does hesitate to leave his children behind to on years-long training missions.

The only decent Saiyan father we get to see is Vegeta. While he is generally a cold, emotionless guy, he cares deeply for his wife and kids.

3. The only mortal to attain Ultra Instinct was a Saiyan

So far, the only mortal to have attained Ultra Instinct was a Saiyan. Goku is not as proficient with it as the Angels yet but he has a habit of shattering limits...just give him some time.

4. The Saiyan home planet was Sadala, not Vegeta

The Saiyans ruined their own home planet and then moved on to another one. It's actually similar to what we Earthlings are planning on doing with Mars.

5. The planet the Saiyans stole was called Planet Plant

Faithful to the vegetable puns, the name of the planet the Saiyans stole was called Planet Plant originally.

6. Beerus is actually responsible for Planet Vegeta being destroyed

Beerus thought the Saiyans were annoying so he ordered Freiza to destroy it. Although I'm certain Freiza was going to do it anyway given how insecure he was about the Saiyans overthrowing him one day.

7. Ancient Saiyans had a conflict that wiped out the Super Saiyan God Race

Prehistoric Saiyans had different ki than Vegeta and the crew but have some of the same transformations. They can turn Super Saiyan 1 -3 and into a Great Ape.

The evil Ancient Saiyans would go on to kill all the Super Saiyan Gods back in the day. All the modern Saiyans are their descendants which would explain why most of the ones we meet in the anime are jerks.

8. Saiyan men are genetically predisposed to be attracted to strong-willed women

Vegeta mentions this to Goku in Dragon Ball Super and it makes sense. Even the half-blooded Saiyans seem to be attracted to very strong-minded women.

Videl, Bulma, and Chichi are all powerful in their own right and contribute significantly to various victories throughout the series.

9. If a Universe 7 Saiyan loses his or her tail there is an 8% chance it will grow back

This would mean that Goku and Vegeta have a small chance of getting their tails back. However, Saiyain biology is such that it will not grow the tail back if the individual's base form is stronger than their Great Ape form.

This is likely the case with both Goku and Vegeta given their godly powers.

10. Gohan is the only Saiyan hybrid with a tail

For a while, many thought that Trunks, Goten, and others simply had their tails removed at birth. But Akira Toriyama informed the world that having a tail is a recessive trait. So, the others probably never got one.

11. Saiyan tails were written out entirely because they annoyed Akira Toriyama

Akira Toriyama found it confusing how the Saiyans would get dressed with a tail. This frustrated him so much that he just did away with the feature entirely.

12. Despite their strength, Saiyans are terrible at war

Don't get me wrong, Saiyans are excellent in individual battles but in wars and prolonged conflict they suck. Saiyans are way too prideful to work together to topple powerful foes.

This is evident throughout most major fights as Goku and Vegeta take turns fighting rather than combining forces and wiping out the murderous villain. Their innate inability to work together is probably the reason Freiza was able to subjugate them so easily.

13. As an infant, Broly had a power level almost 7x higher than Radditz

When Radditza fought Goku and Piccolo his power level was at 1,500. When Broly was fighting colic and dirty diapers his power level was 10,000!

14. Planet Vegeta has 10x the gravity of Earth

The extra gravitational pull they have to contend with is probably why they are leagues above the Earthlings in terms of raw power.

15. Saiyans have absurdly good memories

Apparently, Saiyans can remember everything unless they suffer severe head trauma like Goku did as a child. The original Broly was somehow able to remember that Goku annoyed him in the nursery they were in as newborns and hated him for it.

16. Saiyans are genetically similar to Earthlings

Even though Saiyans completely outclass homo sapiens in power, they must be somewhat genetically similar. There are too many healthy Saiyan hybrids walking around.

These hybrids are also fertile so the genetic compatibility is greater than that of a horse and donkey for example. When those beasts get together a sterile baby is born almost every time.

17. Even if you are less than 25% Saiyan, you can become a Super Saiyan

It seems the " one-drop rule" applies to Saiyans as well given Goku and Vegeta's descendants were able to turn into Super Saiyan at the end of Dragon Ball GT.

Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr were at most 12.5% Saiyan given that they must be the children of a parent with 25% Saiyan blood.
